It’s the season of weddings! After pandemic delays, I’ve been invited to several weddings this summer. Each invitation I’ve received reads “Your presence is requested” instead of “You’re invited.” Both phrases have the same general meaning, but the former, beyond feeling more proper, is also more specific: your presence – that is, your physical body – is desired to be at the wedding. “You’re invited” seems optional… if it works for you, if you can fit it in, if it’s not too much trouble. On the other hand, “You’re presence is requested” is an appeal: the bride and groom believe your presence is essential and will make the occasion even better. You don’t just attend the wedding. You are a part of the wedding. As we continue our sermon series on Prayer AND Presence, we will be exploring how God, through the Spirit, compels us to be a part of His plans.
