CONFIDENCE IN THE GOOD SHEPHERD

“The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1

“I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me. . . My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” – Jesus (John 10:14, 27-28)

The first stage of the Christian journey is where we come to trust in Jesus. For some, this happens as a child. Growing up in a Christian family, we are raised to know Jesus as “the good shepherd”.

Others come to believe in him over time. Hearing the message, their hearts warm in faith as their minds consider his life and teachings. At some point, they choose to trust him as “the LORD” who “is my shepherd” and become a Christian.

At whatever age someone formally puts their confidence in Christ, all of us must come as children in a simple act of trust. When we pray to receive him and declare our faith through baptism, we have crossed into a new life as one of his “sheep”. We never outgrow this stage of “Confidence in Christ” because our whole lives we continue to trust him as he leads us.

Whether you are still coming to believe, are questioning your confidence in him, or have a lifetime of evidence that he is trustworthy, I hope to help you see Jesus more clearly so you can trust him more completely.
