WHAT IS UNSHAKABLE?
This has been a year of shaking. A pandemic, protests and a divisive political season have upended our lives this year. The economy is a roller coaster ride. Guidance from experts is contradictory, confusing and constantly changing. It’s hard to know what to believe, who to trust, how to respond and where to put our hope. We need solid ground.
Searching for Solid Ground
Daily we are bombarded with dire warnings that all will be lost if we don’t vote this way or that way. Voting is important and it has consequences. I hope you vote as you think Jesus would if he were you. But don’t think for a second that Jesus is wringing his hands about the outcome of this election. He is not shaken and we don’t need to be either.
Our hope is not in Washington. My faith is not in the one who sits in the oval office. The love of God for us and through us for the world is not bound by our political affiliations. The truth is simpler, more profound and more unshakable than that.
The Only Unshakable Foundation
In times of shaking, we need solid ground to stand on. We need an unshakable foundation to build our life on. Jesus is the only unshakable foundation. We need to know him as he truly is, relying only on his faith, his love and his hope.
As we weather the storm of the election, let us vote, but let us not put our hope in anything shakable. There is only one unshakable kingdom. Let us build on the right foundation.
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28–29, NIV)
Sunday we will start off this UNSHAKABLE series with baptisms. I will be sharing about the unshakable truth of the gospel that baptism is a picture of. If you are ready to take the plunge, email me: todd@mvc.life.
