ONE FATHER ONE FAMILY

“There is one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” Eph. 4:6

This declaration by the apostle Paul puts an end to any idea of “us and them” for Christians who accept the Bible as our authority.  WE all have one God and Father.  And that is a big WE.

While some would interpret this as applying only to US as Christians who have been adopted into the family of God and not THEM as others who haven’t, I would argue that this is an extremely inclusive statement. Four times he says “all”. There is no escaping our union. Humanity is one family.

The Spittin’ Image of our Father

Every one of us is created in the image of God to look like our Father. Some of us don’t know it yet. Many of us have run far from our Father. Lots of us have bad ideas about what the Father is like. Some even hate the Father. But he is still the only true God and Father there is. And he loves every single one of his children and wants them all to come home and learn to be like their big brother Jesus.

Brothers and sisters don’t always agree or get along.  But that doesn’t change the fact that we are family. There is no them.  There is only us. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can honor each other as brothers and sisters even when we have conflict.

Sunday, our part of the family at Mountain View Church will gather online to share the family supper, worship together and focus on the things that make us one family.  If you could use some good news, you are welcome to join us.  We are your family too.
