Mindful Mondays: Wholeness
Wholeness
By Cheryl Klem
Jesus was the only complete human that ever lived: fully God and fully man. And during our time here, on this side of the new heaven and new earth, we are being formed more each day into his image. He is making all things new.
If whole and complete is what Jesus is, I believe that He wants this for us too.
In James 1:4 we read:
”Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
We are encouraged to persevere on this faith journey and reach for the things that make us more complete, more like Jesus, and more whole.
And Jesus was a great example. He took time for prayer and solitude. His primary relationship was with God the father and yet He also surrounded himself with his twelve disciples. He was generous and loving. He rested when He was tired and had the wisdom and maturity not to get trapped into the pressure of the people who wanted to manipulate Him. There is much to learn from Jesus about how to live and how to “be.” And this takes effort.
One of my favorite quotes is:
“The man at the top of the mountain didn’t fall there.”
I find this to be not only true (unless he was dropped in by a helicopter!) but empowering, frustrating, exciting, tiring, and encouraging all at the same time. But truth is truth. We don’t get to where we want to go and where we need to be without our consistent effort.
This week, let’s take time to be intentional about a path to wholeness. And make a consistent effort in life to ask, “Where am I now?” “Where do I want to be?” and “How am I going to get there?” And always, always, reach out to others and to Jesus and bring them along on the journey. We will all surely end up in a better place if the path we follow is intentional and the One we follow is Jesus.
